Survey of Environmental Protection Expenditures

A researcher was looking for data from the Survey of Environmental Protection Expenditures. The data is available through CANSIM but only for the years 2006 and 2008. The survey however has been conducted every two years from 1996 onwards. Is it possible to obtain data from the survey for the earlier reference periods?

If you select the chronological index on the left-hand side of the screen, there are tables available in the HTML version for 2004. Prior to that, there are “printed” tables available in the PDF versions.

In any case, I have passed on your question to the author division to see if pre-2006 data is available through any other means and will keep you posted.

An analyst in the division confirmed that publication 16F0006XWE (“Environmental Protection Expenditures in the Business Sector”) is the only output for pre-2006 reference year estimates.

However, she also noted that the survey methodology underwent a complete redesign for the 2006 reference year and does not recommend that the estimates for 2006 and 2008 be compared to the estimates from earlier survey cycles.
