Ontario public school enrolment by school
Question
I'm helping a researcher who is looking for annual Ontario public school enrolment by individual school going back to 2007/2008. Basically she needs older (and newer, ideally) editions of this dataset: https://www.ontario.ca/data/ontario-public-schools-enrolment.
She's frustrated by the time it takes to get a response from the Ontario Ministry of Education, so I thought I would check if this is available from Statistics Canada (e.g. through the ESES) as a custom tabulation?
Barring that, anyone else have any suggestions for other sources of this data, and/or tips on successfully requesting data from the Ontario Ministry of Education?
Please note that we do not have data at individual school level. The data we have are at provincial level. Please refer to the following CANSIM tables:

Elementary Teachers in Ontario
Question
I have the following research question:
"I am looking for information (from 2006) about employment of elementary teachers in Ontario. More specifically, I'm looking to find out information about the distribution of gender across elementary school teachers at that time."
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Answer
The following products may be of interest to your client.
The Elementary-Secondary Education Statistics Project (ESESP) tables in the DLI collection provide number of educators in elementary and secondary public schools, by sex in Ontario for 2005/2006 and 2006/2007 (elementary and secondary are grouped together however and the data is on "educators" - this is explained in the notes at the bottom of the tables).
http://www.statcan.gc.ca/dli-ild/data-donnees/ftp/esesp-pseps-eng.htm
The following 2006 Census topic based tabulations on occupation have provincial level data by sex and National Occupational Classification for Statistics 2006 including “E132 Elementary school and kindergarten teachers”.
Occupation - National Occupational Classification for Statistics 2006 (720), Class of Worker (6) and Sex (3) for the Labour Force 15 Years and Over of Canada, Provinces, Territories, Census Metropolitan Areas and Census Agglomerations, 2006 Census - 20% Sample Data (97-559-XCB2006011)
Occupation - National Occupational Classification for Statistics 2006 (720C), Sex (3) and Selected Demographic, Cultural, Labour Force, Educational and Income Characteristics (273) for the Population 15 Years and Over of Canada, Provinces, Territories, Census Metropolitan Areas and Census Agglomerations, 2006 Census - 20% Sample Data (97-564-XCB2006005)
(Available at: http://www12.statcan.gc.ca/census-recensement/2006/dp-pd/tbt/Lp-eng.cfm?LANG=E&APATH=3&DETAIL=0&DIM=0&FL=A&FREE=0&GC=0&GID=0&GK=0&GRP=1&PID=0&PRID=0&PTYPE=88971,97154&S=0&SHOWALL=0&SUB=743&Temporal=2006&THEME=74&VID=0&VNAMEE=&VNAMEF=)
This Labour Force Survey CANSIM table also provides data by NOC-S but I suspect that the occupation breakdown available here is too general for your client.
CANSIM Table 282-0010 Labour force survey estimates (LFS), by National Occupational Classification for Statistics (NOC-S) and sex, annual (persons unless otherwise noted)
v2372853 Ontario; Labour force (x 1,000); Teachers and professors [E1, E130]; Males (annual, 1987 to 2010)
v2373057 Ontario; Labour force (x 1,000); Teachers and professors [E1, E130]; Females (annual, 1987 to 2010)
If these products don't meet your client's needs, we would be happy to confirm if other data are available on a cost recovery basis as a custom tabulation.
Organizations such as provincial teachers' federations may also publish relevant statistics in their publications so you may wish to look into this as well.

Credit Counselling Information
Question
Hello all. Not sure if anyone here can help, but if there is an answer, I'm sure I won't find a more-knowledgeable group to ask. Cheers and thanks.
Here’s the situation: from the mid-1960s until March 31, 1992, the province subsidized the operating expenses of non-profit credit counselling agencies in Ontario. Ideally, I’d like to know how much each agency received from the province in each year over this period. The annual Report of the Minister of Community and Social Services usually had a paragraph saying how many credit counselling agencies received funding; our library has these reports for 1973-1975 and 1978-82. The publication called Expenditures by Municipality shows how much each municipality received for credit counselling and we have the volumes for the three fiscal years ending in March 1975- March 1977. However, it’s not clear that there was only one credit counselling agency in each municipality (though this seems likely).
So one question is whether the other volumes of these two publications are available elsewhere (I assume the answer is ...yes.). The more difficult question is whether there is a list somewhere of which agency got how much money as opposed to which municipality got how much money.
A further question is how much money each agency got from the United Way over this period since the United Way was another major source of funds.
Answer
The Annual Report of the Minister of Community and Social Services appears to be available at the University of Windsor and Wilfrid Laurier University libraries:
AMICUS No. 19637618 2 Location(s) Ontario. Ministry of Community and Social Services. ANNUAL REPORT OF THE MINISTRY OF COMMUNITY AND SOCIAL SERVICES.
OWA 1972/1973-1983/1984 CA2ON SM.... ..A56 ENG (University of Windsor, Leddy Library)
OWTL PAPER: 1982/1983-1983/1984 : MICROFICHE: 1972/1973 -1981/1982 CA2ON SM A56 (Wilfrid Laurier University, Library)
The University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier University seem to have a number of volumes of Expenditures by municipalities in their collection:
AMICUS No. 30018419 1 Location(s) Expenditures by municipality, Ontario Ministry of Community and Social Services. -- 1990
OWTL PAPER: 1975/1976-1977/1978; 1979/1980; 1981/1982; 1983 /1984 : MICROFICHE: 1974/1975; 1978/1979; 1980/1981; 1982/1983 CA2ON SM E85 (Wilfrid Laurier University, Library)
AMICUS No. 30377920 1 Location(s) EXPENDITURES BY MUNICIPALITY, ONTARIO.
OWTU 1969/70-1983/84 CA2ONSF E85 (Waterloo)
Lists of groups/organizations that have received United Way funding and grants and in some case the amount they received are included in some current local United Way publications. The researcher may wish to contact the United Way of Canada (http://www2.unitedway.ca/uwcanada/content.aspx?id=102&langtype=1033) to see if they have a national historical database with funding information. If they don't, the researcher could consider contacting the local United Ways directly to confirm what historical information they could provide.
This may be a bit of a long shot but the Archives of Ontario (http://www.archives.gov.on.ca/english/index.aspx; reference@ontario.ca) may have sources that detail how much money each non-profit credit counselling agency received from the government of Ontario during the period that interests the researcher. One could contact them as well to see what sources they would recommend.
I hope that these suggestions are helpful.

Industry Price Indexes For Chemical Products
Question
I have a patron looking for CMA level data for Ontario for the Industry price indexes for chemical products. Table 329-0049 in E-Stat only provides regions.
Also, they would like electricity consumption and prices by CMA or city in Ontario for 2001-2006. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Answer
Industry price indexes for chemical products are unfortunately not available at the CMA level. Regions are the most detailed level of geography for which the data are available. In addition to the table you have already located (CANSIM table 329-0049), your client may be interested in tables 329-0048 and 329-0039 which offers less geographic details but more commodity detail.
Provincial and regional level data for electric power selling price indexes (non-residential) are available in 329-0050. These are not available at the CMA or city level.
If your client is interested in consumer price indexes (CPI) for electricity, they are available for Ontario in CPI related products such as 326-0021 and 326-0020. The CPI for an aggregate of "water, fuel and electricity" is also available for Ontario and the following urban centres (Ottawa-Gatineau, Ontario part, Toronto, Thunder Bay) in these tables.
Electricity use and demand data are not available at the CMA or city level in our energy-related products. The most detailed level of geography for which use and demand is available are provinces and regions (ex.128-0010, 128-0003, 57-003-XWE).
