Yes, custom tabulations are available for all Census/NHS years up until 1971. You’ll have to contact your nearest regional office for this tabulation.

Custom tab request: Labour force by industry, CSD level, 2006 Census
Question
I've got a researcher looking for more granular data for labour force by industry. 2006 Profiles include only two-digit NAICS codes and I'm looking for either three or four (currently waiting for the researcher to tell me which). In the meantime, could you tell me if it would be possible to produce a custom tab of labour force by industry for NAICS codes 212 and/or 2122 for each CSD in Canada?

I confirmed with Census subject matter that it is feasible to produce a custom tab of labour force by industry for NAICS codes 212 and/or 2122 for each CSD in Canada.

Request for IMDB custom tab
Question
I have a researcher who is interested in getting some custom tabulations from the IMDB. He needs longitudinal micros level data on individual refugees older than 19 years of age for approximately 5 years since landing.
In order to assist his request, is it possible to get a list of the IMDB variables?

Below is the response we have received from subject matter:
“Unfortunately, IMDB micro-records are not released and all aggregate statistics are subject to suppression and rounding, in order to prevent the disclosure of identifiable data.
If the researcher wishes to purchase a custom tabulation of aggregate data, please put him/her in touch with us directly.”
Followup Question
If the researcher proceeds with the custom tab, will that data then be made available to all DLI participants? It was my understanding that this is the case but I'm not clear on the process. Does the researcher have to release the data (to me?) for distribution?

Custom tab requests - online form vs email?
Question
Does anyone know if the procedure for requesting custom requests has recently changed slightly to now only be possible through an online form? I am accustomed to sending requests to: infostats@statcan.gc.ca but this address rejected my request. Not certain if just the email server was donw?
I then found this page which has only an online form: http://www.statcan.gc.ca/reference/refcentre-centreref/index-eng.htm.
I was hoping an email address w/out the necessity of using an online form was still possible as it is then possible to copy into the initial correspondence the researchers requesting data.

In future it would be easier to email dli-idd@statcan.gc.ca with what custom tabulation you would be interested in and we can put you in touch with the relevant subject matter division whom would take your request from there. Please be sure to provide as much information as possible in your request and if possible reference a similar existing STATCAN product if your are aware of one.

Dissemination Block-Level Data
Question
Can someone please help clarify access to dissemination block level data for the 2006 Census?
I know we have access through GeoSuite (and Geosearch) to population and dwelling counts at the DB level; however, I have a researcher who is looking for characteristic (profile) data at the DB level. I know through DLI we only get profile files down to DA.
The following STC page (http://www12.statcan.gc.ca/census-recensement/2006/ref/dict/geo014a-eng.cfm) explains that only population and dwelling counts are disseminated at the DB level.
I am assuming DB data exists though and can be requested; however, would this constitute a custom tab or an RDC request? Does it depend on whether it’s used for analytical vs. descriptive services.

You are correct, the dissemination area (DA) is the lowest level of geography for which census data are available through the DLI.
Dissemination block level data can however be requested on a custom basis for a fee. Based on previous inquiries about data at the block level, it is my understanding that areas of interest need to have a minimum population of 100 when no income data are requested and a minimum population threshold of 250 for data with income characteristics. Other confidentiality and suppression rules may also apply. I would be happy to refer you to an Account Executive who can provide additional information about this type of custom product and confirm if the specific data your researcher needs are available and at what cost if he/she is interested in custom 2006 Census products.
With regards to the availability of block level data through the RDCs, I have asked our census contacts to confirm if one could use the the 2006 Census microdata file (RDC) to access data at this level and will send you additional information about this as soon as I receive their answer. I couldn't find a block level geography variable in the codebook for the 2006 Census RDC file but have asked our Census contacts to advise and confirm.
