Perceptions of Sexual Assault - Data that Covers Undergraduates

May 26, 2022

Question:
A student is looking to see if there are any datasets about rape myths or perceptions surrounding sexual assault held within Canadian Society. There is particular interest in data that covers undergraduates.

Answer:
I believe the best source of information for your client would be the 2019 Survey on Individual Safety in the Postsecondary Student Population (SISPSP).

From this initiative there have been a number of analytical pieces published.  Specifically:

If ever you would like to conduct your own analyses with the data then you may submit a proposal to access the master data file via Research Data Centres (statcan.gc.ca).

New Release: ICPPS 2020

June 24, 2020

We are pleased to inform you that the following product is now available.

Impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on postsecondary students (ICPPS) 2020, Crowdsource file, PUMF

From April 19 to May 1, 2020, Statistics Canada will conduct a crowdsourcing data collection on the Impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on postsecondary students (ICPPS).

The COVID-19 pandemic is currently disrupting the lives and habits of all Canadians, including those of postsecondary students. It is therefore necessary to quickly gather information to help understand its impacts on postsecondary students, their education and the impact on the labour market and the ability of students to integrate into it.

These data will be used by government organizations, education institutions and Canadians alike, providing them with the information they need to respond to, and recover from, this pandemic.

In order to implement this crowdsourcing data collection rapidly, it will be conducted online only. Postsecondary students may be invited by their respective postsecondary institution to participate in the Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on postsecondary students crowdsourcing initiative. Participants may also be recruited through social media, personal social connections, student associations or other academic organizations.

Student responses about culture of higher ed. institutes

Question
I have an inquiry from a researcher who is looking for responses from students about the culture and behaviours found in higher educational institutes. I am new to DLI and as such am sure that I haven’t looked in all the possible places, but if such data exists I would appreciate being pointed in the right direction!

Answer
I couldn’t find anything from a quick search on our website, so I’ve asked our Education team for information. Please stay tuned for a response.

Unfortunately the education team does not have any data collected for student culture and behaviour. Do you mind elaborating on what the researcher is specifically looking for? We might be able to find something similar if we can get a sense of the context of these terms.

- Number of students/faculty/staff hired in these divisions

- Number of community partnerships/commercial business involved

- Operating costs

- Profits, if any

Answer

NHS data on age group X highest certificate at Census Tract level?

Question

I’m looking for data from the 2011 National Household Survey which cross-tabulates age with education level at the Census Tract level.

I found the following data table (99-012-X2011055) on the Statistics Canada website which provides the data at the subdivision level, but not CT. The same table was on the DLI’s EFT site.
Highest Certificate, Diploma or Degree (7), Age Groups (8B), Major Field of Study - Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP) 2011 (14), Labour Force Status (8), Attendance at School (3) and Sex (3) for the Population Aged 15 Years and Over, in Private Households of Canada, Provinces, Territories, Census Divisions and Census Subdivisions, 2011 National Household Survey
Have I overlooked something, or is the data not available publicly or through the DLI?

Answer

There is the following table at the CT level for Highest Certificate, Diploma or Degree but it does not cross-tabulate with age.

Profile - Immigration and Ethnocultural Diversity, Aboriginal Peoples, Labour and Education, and Mobility and Migration for Census Metropolitan Areas, Tracted Census Agglomerations and Census Tracts, National Household Survey, 2011

There is also the NHS profile, but again, it only has an age breakdown of the highest certificate, diploma or degree by population 15+ and Total population aged 25 to 64 years by highest certificate, diploma or degree.

Downloadable at the CT level:

http://www12.statcan.gc.ca/nhs-enm/2011/dp-pd/prof/details/download-telecharger/comprehensive/comp-ivt-xml-nhs-enm.cfm?Lang=E

This would need to be done via a custom tabulation through the closest regional office.
