I have a few questions regarding the General Social Survey Cycle 26 Variables:
1) Variable HUI_EMO1
-Value 3 is “Somewhat unhappy”
-Value 4 is “Somewhat unhappy”
-What is the difference between these codes?
2) Variable HLTH_UTIL_INDEX
-Does the index provide a measure of overall health (what is it an index of)?
-Is a lower score “better” or “worse”?
-We don’t seem to have the documentation on how derived variables were created: is this available?
-Section 6.4 of the user guide indicates: “The data dictionary identifies which variables were derived and the nature of their derivation.” Normally this is more than the names of the variables which were used to derive the variable.
-My French is somewhat suspect, but should the title on the first page of the Guide d’utilisatuer (C26_FMGD_Guide_d'utilisateur.pdf) be "données et reçus" rather than "données at reçus"?"

Unfortunately, we do not have more details in the data dictionary on how we derived the variables. However, we do have the source of each derived variable. Should you need more details on a specific variable, please let us know and we can send you more information.
