VHS Conversions

Question

Is anyone digitizing obsolete media like VHS? We are investigating this type of migration but it's rather pricey (~$200/video via a local company).

Answer

You're better off doing it (i.e., VHS conversions to digital media) yourself; it's time consuming, but not that expensive, depending on exactly how you do it, and whether or not you need to deal with any copy protection on the tapes.

Here's a recent review of VHS to DVD converters; mind you, you don't have to put it on DVD (you could just keep the video file handy), but it is an option. <http://vhs-to-dvd-converters-review.toptenreviews.com/>. There's lots of sources out there with more information on doing it yourself.
