CTUMS variance tables for 2007

Question
Can anyone tell me why the variance tables for CTUM 2005 are available on the Statistics Canada website but 2007 aren't?

2005 seems to be available from http://www23.statcan.gc.ca/imdb/p2SV.pl?Function=getSurvDocument&Item_Id=48423&InstaId=22693&ai=1&dis=1 but all I can find for 2007 are the user guides.

Variability tables for CTUMS 2007 can also be found on the DLI PUMF EFT safe: /MAD_PUMF_FMGD_DAM/Root/4440_CTUMS_ESUTC/2007/annual/doc

If you require any assistance with accessing your EFT account, please let us know.

I inquired whether they would be placed online and unfortunately there are no plans to put them online; but they are part of our release package for the PUMF that the DLI receives and uploads to the EFT.

CTUMS 2008 Cycle 1 and CCHS 2007

Question

Do we have a date when the PUMF for the CTUMS 2008 Cycle 1 will be released to DLI? (http://www.statcan.gc.ca/daily-quotidien/090119/dq090119b-eng.htm)

Also, could you please confirm that the CCHS 2007 is still due to be released this summer (and perhaps a more specific date)?

The PUMF for CTUMS 2008 Cycle 1 was released to the DLI some time ago, but the author division subsequently found there were problems with the bootstrap weight files so we were asked not to load it. I asked for an update just now, and was told that they are still correcting the bootstrap weight files. However, they said that we could go ahead and load all the other files for now and they will send us the bootstrap weight files separately once they are corrected. Jackie is loading the files as we speak and I will announce them as soon as they are available on the sites.

As for the CCHS 2007, the author division confirmed that "end of summer 2009" is still the anticipated release date (they cannot provide a more accurate date at this point).

Canadian Tobacco Use Monitoring Survey - February to June 2006

The CTUMS, conducted since 1999 by Statistics Canada on behalf of Health Canada, provides timely, reliable and continuous data on tobacco use and related issues. Its objective is to track changes in smoking status and amount smoked, especially among young people aged 15 to 24, who are most at risk for taking up smoking. This file contains the data collected between February and June 2006 from about 10,000 respondents.

Canadian Tobacco Use Monitoring Survey 2003 Annual vs. Cycle2

Question

We have a researcher who has been digging into the CTUMS 2003 Person files. Now as I understand it, and from what I've read - the annual file is simply a complete file with Cycle1 and Cycle2 data put together. So in theory all the variables that were contained in the Cycle2 Person file should also be available in the Annual Person file. However... with the 2003 file we have found this anomaly:

We have 9 variables that are available in the Cycle 2 file (Q096B, Q097B, Q098A, Q098C, DVLOWTAR, Q200, Q201, Q202, Q203) but are no where to be found in the Annual file. Should these variables be included in the annual file?

Answer

It turns out that if the question was asked in both cycle 1 and cycle 2, the annual data will have the results. However, if the question was posed only in Cycle 1 or only in Cycle 2, it is not included in the annual results.
