Question About the 2006 Census PUMF

Question

A researcher here has been looking at the number of individuals living with children. She compared PKIDHH to the count obtained for PKID0_1 through PKID25, and found a discrepancy, finding about 21,000 fewer in the sum than in PKIDHH.  Should these figures match? She can’t figure out what the problem is and hopes for assistance with it.

Answer

I received the following explanation from our contacts in response to your question:

"The variables are not defined at the same level.

  • PKIDxTOx are defined as the number of people in a census family with children.

  • PKIDHH is defined as the number of people in a household containing a census family with children (that includes some people who are not in a census family)."

Please do not hesitate to let me know if you have any other questions.
